Books I have read over the last two months

January 28, 2018

Seven Habits of Highly Effective People – I recommended it to Andrew, he read the beginning and recommended it to me – to me, one of the most important books ever written, inspired by the Holy Spirit, required reading for anyone.

Ender’s Game – recommended by Andrew as the best work of Sci Fi, he read it 7 times – really good, the psychological ins and outs of a child raised to be the best, extremely interesting and fascinating.

4 Disciplines of Execution – recommended by Amazon, happened at the right time – how to change people’s behaviour and not get your good intentions engulfed in the whirlwind – amazing!

The Little Princess – recommended by the Well-Trained mind, rejected by Anya – interesting book about how to remain magnanimous in difficult circumstances. Will read it together with Anya, I betcha she will like it.

Honey for a Child’s Heart” – my long-time dream of sorting out a decent reading list for the kids – helpful in both choice of books and the way of presenting them to kids

Philosophy of the oppressed – recommended by Andrew’s rhetoric teacher Mr. Hummel – how to educate those who are oppressed to freedom and higher level of humanity

Mathematician’s Lament – Andrew and Mr. Hummel – what is wrong with the way math is taught and a fresh look on where math fits into contemporary life

Great Work Great Career – Alexander declared that being an architect is too much trouble – good look at an intelligent way to selecting a satisfying career.

Animals in Translation – recommended by Sasha and his biology teacher Dr. Bennett – animal perception seen through the lens of an autistic scientist, indirectly clarifies the difference in male/female perception

Journaling – Lilly’s Master’s thesis on how journalling serves to improve writing and distillation of ideas

The Hobbit – read aloud to Anya, Johnny, Peter and Katia

Lord of the Flies – read with Katia

Teaching from Rest – recommended by Heather, about how to find the elusive peace necessary for homeschooling
