Reason I read it – Dr. Grewal came up on Medscape Emergency Medicine review, he runs a successful weight loss clinic in the US. He himself was overweight, tried diets, and said “they work, but only for as long as you obsess over them”. He has a different approach – intriguing.
Summary – weight loss and maintenance should be exactly the same thing – you can’t hold your breath while losing weight, you will have to breathe in at some point. If you throw your body into starvation mode, it will respond by slowing metabolism down by 40%. Also, it has to be sustainable – you can’t be entering every morsel you ate into a diary for the rest of your life. So the only answer is portion control.
Take home message –
1. Eat what you want. Just make sure the composition is decent – less fats and carbs more protein. Note, though – don’t cut out fats and carbs, just watch them
2. Drink 8 glasses of water a day, at least one before each meal.
3. Eat 5 meals a day, don’t allow your body to feel hungry. Have your first meal within 30 min of waking up.
4. Portion control! Dr. Nwe recommends her own slimplate system (available at Amazon for $165), but you can come up with your own.
Strength – very common sense and sustainable, should work
Weaknesses – horribly written by a non-native English speaker with no training in writing. Extremely scattered and painful to read
Springboard to – nothing. Just trying it out. I tried for a few days and immediately lost my milk :), so had to hastily backtrack. Will try again when I am not nursing if I still need it.
